The Matek M9N-5883 GNSS & Compass is an advanced GPS module that uses the powerful NEO-M9N chipset to track and receive signals from multiple GNSS systems concurrently. This module supports all major GNSS constellations, including GPS, Galileo, GLONASS, and BeiDou, providing exceptional performance and accuracy for FPV pilots and drone enthusiasts. Additionally, the integrated QMC5883L magnetic compass ensures precise orientation detection.
Key Features of the Matek M9N-5883 GNSS & Compass
Multi-Constellation GNSS Receiver
The NEO-M9N chipset enables simultaneous reception of signals from GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, and BeiDou, ensuring robust satellite tracking even in challenging environments. With its multi-band RF front-end architecture, the M9N-5883 delivers enhanced accuracy and faster positioning.
Integrated QMC5883L Compass
This GNSS module comes equipped with a QMC5883L magnetic compass that allows for precise direction sensing. The compass is ideal for applications that require exact orientation, especially in autonomous drone navigation.
High Performance and Low Power Consumption
With a power consumption of just 50mA and an input voltage range of 4-5.5V, the M9N-5883 is designed to provide long-lasting, efficient performance without draining your drone's power supply. It also features a UART interface for GNSS communication and an I2C interface for the compass.

Tips and Notes
- For flat compass mounting, avoid tilting the magnetometer. Ensure it is aligned properly for accurate performance:
- INAV/BetaFlight: If compass arrow points forward, set CW 270° Flip when flight controller arrow is forward.
- ArduPilot/Mission Planner: No rotation required.
- Keep the compass/magnetometer at least 10cm away from power lines, ESCs, motors, and iron-based materials.
- Firmware Requirements: INAV 5.0.0, Betaflight 4.3.0, ArduPilot 4.3 or newer.
- The NEO-M9N chipset does not have built-in dataflash. Once the GNSS module is powered off and the supercapacitor is depleted, settings will revert to default.
- The UBX protocol is bidirectional, allowing flight controller firmware to change GPS settings without requiring external software.
Troubleshooting and Firmware Reset
If the flight controller cannot detect the GNSS module (grey GPS icon), reset the receiver by bridging the "RST" pad to ground for at least 100ms. This will trigger a cold start and delete all previous information. Use this reset function only as a recovery option.
